Project Overview: Benchmarking Soldier Experience with IVAS

At Microsoft, I analyzed soldier sentiment for the latest IVAS (Integrated Visual Augmentation System) prototype during a two-week field test. My goal was to benchmark user experience with upgraded features, setting a baseline for future iterations.

My Contribution: Unpacking Soldier Feedback and Quantifying Sentiment

I was solely responsible for the data analysis of daily soldier questionnaire responses. Due to data confidentiality (ITAR-protected), I leveraged in-house tools like Excel to perform descriptive statistics, correlation, and segmentation analysis. A key challenge involved standardizing inconsistent survey scales across days into numeric percentiles to enable meaningful comparisons of sentiment evolution. I also created all visualizations and reports.

Key Findings:

  • Counter-intuitive discovery: Non-leaders showed a higher likelihood to recommend the product, challenging initial assumptions.
  • The prototype achieved the most favorable sentiment ratings (averaging over 80% satisfaction) compared to previous versions.
  • The primary qualitative complaint was consistently about the device’s weight.

Impact: Driving Product Strategy with Data-Backed Insights

My analysis provided critical, data-backed evidence directly informing product roadmap decisions. These insights were presented to the Director of UX Research and the Director of Systems Engineering, significantly contributing to the knowledge transfer process as the division transitioned to Anduril. This project demonstrates my ability to extract actionable insights from complex data, even under strict constraints, and influence strategic product development.
